| The designer and artist,
Zev, has had a life long commitment with
the construction and creation of useable, functional art. The
philosophy which Interiors by Zev
employs is somewhat different than many other interior
designers. Interiors by Zev
creates an entire functional concept based on the clients
"vision". We begin with the three-dimensional world while many
designers begin with the two-dimensional world. This different
focus and direction allows us a unique perspective to offer our clients.
In 1999, Zev chose to
make a career of his passion, focusing on designing and constructing
contemporary unique furniture in his small studio in Nashville,
Tennessee. In 2002
Zev decided
to expand even further, into the realm of Interior Design. Each of
Zev’s
furniture pieces is a synthesis of his artistic vision, his lifelong study, and
his experience.
Zev began his academic pursuit of functional art
with his undergraduate work in metal arts from University of Missouri at
Columbia.
In these early years of study, the artist focused on wearable art in the
form of unique jewelry and began designing and creating spiritual Jewish art.
Once Zev completed his
undergraduate studies in the metal arts, he longed to continue his exploration
of functional art. Zev's
independent graduate work began in 1994 in Spain studying both art and Sephardic
Judaism. The opportunity to study and examine the marriage of
Mediterranean/Islamic art with western European art gave him insight into the
origins of classic functional art. A few years later he entered the Arad
Artist Program in Israel, from which he graduated with honors.
The Arad Artist Program allowed Zev
to continue to pursue spiritual Jewish art in the land of its birth, Israel. Before returning to the United States Zev
worked at Kibbutz Hamadia as a woodworker and cabinetmaker.
The foray into interior design
began in 2001 when some of the regular clients of Interiors
by Zev wanted more than just furnishings.
With the help of their furniture designer, Zev,
an interior design aspect was born and has now made Interiors
by Zev one of the more creative interior design
firms in the Mid South. The unique functional art pieces featured at
Interiors
by Zev were designed and handcrafted by
Zev,
using a combination of hand and machine methods. Each piece is made of hand
selected, grain-matched wood and utilizes traditional hand-fitted joinery
accented with stone or metal. The
designs are unique, contemporary, and elegant; incorporating exposed joinery,
precise craftsmanship, and a blend of color, tone, and texture to achieve a
coherent composition and a fusion of the elements.
